Due to the rapid Urbanization and Population growth in the major cities of India has led to the increase in demand for Residential Real-Estate. The rising demand have hiked up the market prices and caused the onset of Budget friendly homes leading the residential spaces to become smaller. Developers and Flats in Chennai and other major metro cities have redesigned the spaces smaller in size creating “COMPACT HOMES” suited as a budget friendlyhome option for increase in sales and the population factor.
As an architect and Residential Interior Designer in Chennai, It’s very imperative for us to plan every inch of the available space so that we can optimize the use and ease to maintain that suits our requirements. While designing the Bedroom Interior, the two major furniture are the beds and Wardrobes. Wardrobe storage plays a major factor while designing for a compact home due to the smaller size provided for the bedrooms.
wardrobe keep in mind the following factors that help you build a wardrobe of optimal usage.
It can be a single Wardrobe with two or more doors and each section can be allocated to each individuals. The wardrobe can be Two Door Swing Open or Two door Slide Open Wardrobe, Walk in Wardrobe, Three or four door Swing Open Wardrobe.
While allocating the wardrobe
to kids we should keep in
mind the following two points
i. It Should have lot of space,
Minimum a two door Wardrobe.
ii. It Should have Shelf’s dedicated
for Books ,Toys, Uniform and Sports
Wear apart from the regular wear
It can be a single door Wardrobe with provision for keeping Luggage, hanging used cloth in Hanger, Drawer to Keep Accessories and shelf for folded cloths to be Stored

SWING DOOR WARDROBE either Built as Fitted wardrobe or Free Standing wardrobe is the most commonly used wardrobe since the birth of storage units and Closets . They can be Installed in the minium space provided and planned accordingly as single door wardrobe to more length available. It can be organised and accesed easily making more length available. SLIDE DOOR WARDROBE is a variant of walk-in wardrobe as it also gives a broad and uninterrupted view of the clothing. It’s very optimal to use sliding doors for Smaller rooms where there is less space to accomodate both the bed and a Wardrobe adjacently in the room. Swing door wardrobes consumes the extra room space for the opening of the doors and the front portion of the wardrobe should be kept clear of things distrupting the opening. Whereas it saves that space and can be well utilised & accessed.
WALK-IN WARDROBE / OPEN WARDROBE is always considered as a Luxury element of a home as It Requires more space and a seperate enclosed corner to be planned. Even a small closet can be neatly planned as a walk-in wardrobe which accomodates all our clothing and a dresser. Walk-In wardrobes should be neatly planned and oraganised with a goodlighting to the wardrobe collections. It gives you a complete view of your clothing displayed. One can always convert an additional room to thier dream.
